This is the first stage of processing hemp stems, whereby the bast fibres are separated from the woody core. The bales of hemp fiber are placed on the conveyor belt and their bindings are removed. Next, the bales are loosened in the bale opener and evenly fed into the hammer mills. In these hammer mills, specially designed by HempFlax, the woody kern is beaten loose from the bast fibers. Following this, the mixture is transferred to the separation drum where it is sieved. The wood is transferred via a pipeline to the wood cleaning section, where all dust is removed using an ingenious filter system. The fiber, which by this time has reached a purity of 90%, continues on a conveyor belt to the refining line.
Fiber fine opening lines
On these lines, the raw fiber is first combed, then evenly fed into a cleaning machine. This process is repeated twice before the fibers are pressed into bales under high pressure. The construction of this production line is unique, enabling an optimum combination of fiber length and fineness to be reached. This fibre is extremely suitable for high-end applications such as in the automotive industry.
The hemp fiber bales of technical quality are fed into this line using two feed conveyor belts. A metal detector performs further cleaning before it enters the carding process. The thin layers created are layered crosswise and overlapping before being worked with the first set of needles. A second set of needles continues to work the felt mats until the requires thickness and density is obtained.
The wood, having been through optimal dust removal on the processing line, is transported to a large storage silo. From this silo, the wood moves to the completely automated packing line. Here the wood is packed in plastic film in handy bales of approximately 14kg, 10kg, 3kg and 1kg.
